north Center

Home to one of the largest hubs for Chicago’s microbrewing scene and historically known for the German heritage in the area. North Center has transformed itself into a family friendly neighborhood in the past decade.

The food scene here is diverse and leans mostly into the American pub scene. If you’re looking for a burger, you’re going to be in the right place. That doesn’t mean you can’t find some out of the ordinary finds, though.

Irving Park Brown Line

This part of the neighborhood serves

  • coffee lovers (ritual Coffeehouse)
  • craft beer enthusiasts (Begyle Brewing)
  • people curious about colombian food (el llano)

Ritual Coffee (1821 W. Irving Park Rd.)

A late night café perfect for music lovers. They have a huge record collection and always have a record playing. Seating is rather limited, but it tends to be more open when the patio is open or during an off-hour. Be mindful of the crowds if you plan to work remotely here. See in featured in our guide to all coffee shops in Chicago

What dish we recommend – a coffee and pastry of the day is a solid option. If you’re not a coffee person, they have some unique tea blends as well. I love blend 333 myself. Be aware that food options are harder to come by if you stop in during the evening

Begyle Brewing (1800 W. Cuyler)

A community focused brewery on Malt Row known for their Barrel Aged Stout program. Enjoy their taproom for the wifi and plentiful power outlets. They also host a rotating food pop-up along with different community events throughout the week.

Western and Irving Park

This part of the neighborhood serves

  • Adventurous thai food fans (sticky rice)
  • coffee drinkers with interest in latin american food (dulce de leche cafecito)

Dulce de Leche cafecito (4054 N. Western Ave.)

A solid place to have a quick breakfast or lunch. They serve up a Latin American inspired menu that is delicious.

Sticky Rice (4018 N. Western Ave.)

A special restaurant for Thai food aficionados. This spot serves up dishes specific to the Northern region of the country. Here you’ll find dishes that aren’t on restaurant menus anywhere else in Chicago. View our full length video on the restaurant below.
