Architectural sites to visit

Mill run park

This serene park on the edge of Downtown has plenty of walking trails and a giant brutalist observation tower. Head here after your visit to Upland’s Brewery.

north Christian Church

This church designed in 1961 and was Eero Saarinen’s final architectural work before his death

Robert N. Stewart bridge

You can’t miss this bridge on your way out of town. It’s majestic and modern all at the same time.

Restaurants to visit

panaderia y Taqueria la espiga

The bread on my Torta was fresher than most you can find in Chicago. This hidden gem is in a quaint house off the beaten trail. You have to really search for it, but I urge you to check it out. The flavors here are spectacular and are up there with the best taquerias in Chicago.

Thai connection

If you’re looking for Southeast Asian food downtown, this is your best bet. We enjoyed our food and iced coffee. Convenient to the architectural sites in downtown.

Upland Brewing

I stumbled upon their beer called Kindred unexpectedly at a venue in Chicago. That sour brown ale was one of their best offerings during our visit and I was pleased to see it in Chicago. Their sour beer program in general is very well regarded. They also offer food; however, we didn’t get to try any.
