Oyster Cracker Snack Mix

Two days. That’s how long the last batch of this oyster cracker snack mix lasted in my house. It’s the only snack recipe we make, and it’s the only one snack recipe we need.

My mother, sister, and I would make this recipe once every month or so and always makes me reminisce of my childhood and afternoon snacks after school. The hardest part is letting the cracker mix sit for a few hours before trying it. The resting time allows the oils and flavors to truly infuse into the crackers.

The recipe originally came from a Snack Cookbook that my kindergarten class made together. It had other treats like ants on a log (raisins on top of celery with peanut butter), but this is the only snack we make to this day. Here’s a fun fact, when I was in highschool I actually worked at that same kindergarten I went to and some of the teachers were still there a decade later.

Okay, now on to the recipe-

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 packet of Hidden Valley ranch seasoning packet (or the knock off Aldi brand found near the salad dressings)
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • 1/4 tsp lemon pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 16oz bag of oyster crackers

Directions:

1. Put the oyster crackers in a medium sized bowl with a lid.

2. In a separate small bowl, mix the seasonings, spices, and oil.

3. Drizzle the oil mixture of the oyster crackers and mix with a large spoon until all of the crackers are coated with seasoning. Sometimes popping the lid on a giving a few gentle shakes helps as well.

4. Wait 2 hours (and of course testing a few in the beginning) and enjoy. Pro tip: these oyster crackers can be stored in an airtight container such as a deli container for a few days.
